NEON are currently engaged in "Made in Merthyr", an exciting community engaged public art project developed in consultation with staff and students at Merthyr Tydfil College.
Three groups of students have been engaged in the process so far; foundation degree Photography, arts BTEC extended diploma and foundation degree performing arts. Each group explored a different public art theme, the themes for the workshops were landmark, pride and function. Activities for the workshops were highly diverse and included a dance workshop with Colombian artist Carlos Maria Romero, automatic writing, photography, clay modelling, drawing, graphic design and debating. The conversations and outcomes of this process will be used to form the emotional brief for the resultant artworks.
NEON have presented an exhibition at the College to mark the conclusion of this engagement process which will run until mid February. Over the next few months we will be developing two public artworks to be sited in the campus of the college.
