The wind turbine has long been a point of contention, some love it and some hate it. We feel that this divisive object could work harder in the way it communicates with the people that inhabit the space around it. What if the turbine could entertain the public while also performing its function of energy harvesting? Could our city’s and landscapes be more interesting, thought provoking and animated?

This proposal is for a small scale prototype which can act to change our view on the potential of the wind turbine as a mechanism for play and interaction.

The project connects the rotation of a fan to a flip book type animation device which works in a similar way to a split flap often found in train stations. The animation will play at different speeds depending on
wind flow.
